The 48th Annual Kyi-Yo Pow Wow is this weekend (April 22-23) at the Adams Center. Traditional dancers, drummers and Native Americans from across the nation and beyond travel to Missoula each year for this huge event.

If you are familiar with pow wows, you know that this is one of the best indoor celebrations with traditional dancing, contests, vendors and more. If this will be your first time, you are guaranteed to love your experience of seeing the dancing, outfits and traditions that will take place. A tip if you are a newbie, there are specific times when you are not allowed to take photos or videos, if you are going to do so, please do so during appropriate times.

Admission is $5 per session or $12 for the weekend, kids under 6 and elders 65 and over are free. Each 'Grand Entry' marks the start of a new session. Grand Entries are scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at noon and 7 p.m. All sessions are open to the public.

If you would like to participate, drum registration includes 10 passes and is a $50 entry fee and dancer registration is $5. Proceeds from the event go to cash awards for contests and to the U of M Kyiyo Native American Student Association, which promotes cultural traditions and customs through extra curricular activities throughout the year.
