The National Weather Service is tracking a line of thunderstorms that will enter west central Montana starting on Thursday and continuing through Saturday.

Meteorologist Luke Robinson said the storms will be moving south.

“We’re watching a little bit of moisture sliding south out of Canada today through Saturday,” Robinson said. “We are watching for some potential for some isolated but scattered thunderstorms today across northwest Montana and some of those thunderstorms could continue through the overnight hours and slide south into the Missoula area.”

Robinson said the storms will be intermittent, but strong.

“We’re not really expecting them to be that widespread, it will be hit and miss, but those who do see the thunderstorms will see frequent lightning, gusty winds, and some chances for small hail. The winds that we’ll see will likely be below 40 miles per hour,” he said.

Robinson said he doesn’t expect the lightning to be widespread fire starters, but there is the potential for some small fire starts are there.
