For Montana citizens frustrated with long wait times or distant appointments for a driver’s license renewal or replacement, the State of Montana has partnered with AAA in Missoula and Kalispell as an authorized agent.

Motor Vehicle Division spokesman Levi Worts said AAA will be able to handle most of the driver’s license procedures.

“We have authorized Triple A to start renewal and replacements for standard driver’s licenses,” said Worts. “That’s non-commercial and Class B licenses, to be technical. These are the two primary transactions that we conduct at our driver’s license stations. With Triple A coming on and helping, what we expect to see is a reduction in wait times in those areas and hopefully, we can offer appointment scheduling sooner to people, They can get in and get service at MVD locations a lot sooner, or they can choose the option of going to Triple A.”

Worts said there are some services that will only be available at Motor Vehicle Department locations, such as certified Real ID driver’s licenses and commercial driver’s licenses.

“That’s going to be one of those services that will specifically offered only at our MVD official license stations,” he said. “That’s mostly because of federal requirements. The good news is that with Triple A helping out, we can free up more space for those specific services. In addition, new driver’s licenses and driver testing will also be handled only at official license stations.

Triple A Montana in Missoula said their offices are now accepting drop-in only customers for renewals and replacement licenses only from 8:30 to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
