Halloween is on a Friday this year, which is good news and bad news. Good news that trick-or-treaters can sleep in on Saturday, but bad news for law enforcement, as they attempt to keep adult party goers safe.

Police spokesman Travis Welsh said extra patrols will be out on Halloween.

"We are putting out some extra patrols which will include some extra footbeats downtown, and we're also anticipating some parties and gatherings around town," Welsh said. "Officers will be deployed to respond to those events and try to quell those disturbances. Hopefully, nothing will get too large and out of hand, and ultimately, we hope that nobody gets hurt."

Welsh has advice for drivers who will be out on Halloween.

"Please watch out for trick-or-treaters," he said. "They might dart out into traffic without any warning. We encourage parents to go with their kids to keep them safe. and to examine all the candy they get before it's eaten."

Aside from all the parties for adults, Southgate Mall will have their traditional Halloween celebration. Marketing Director Tricia Piedalue said there will be a costume contest, a special dance presentation of the Michael Jackson hit 'Thriller', and trick or treating throughout the mall.

"It's warm safe and dry," she said. " Kids of all ages are welcome."

There will be carnival games from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at which time On-Center Dance Company will present 'Thriller'. Trick or treating will be from 6 to 9 p.m.
