Missoula residents could be digging out from under up to a foot of new snow by Tuesday morning.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Corby Dickerson said Sunday afternoon that the snow that had been falling all day will intensify Sunday night, leaving anywhere from eight inches up to a foot of new snow on the valley floor.

"We're going to see these small flakes turn into big flakes by tonight, and then when all is said and done by tomorrow morning we'll have another six to eight inches. When all is said and done, I think people in the Missoula valley will be seeing 10 to 12 inches of snow. We're expecting more snow on Tuesday, but that will be very wet snow."

Dickerson said the heaviest snow totals will be in the Seeley Lake area.

"I think the biggest snow totals will be north of Missoula in the Seeley Lake area," Dickerson said. "They'll be seeing very heavy snow all the way through Wednesday."
