While biking through the Milwaukee Trail this Fathers Day evening, we noticed a small group of locals surrounded near the John H. Toole Riverfront Park. We learned that tonight was the night that the community project "Light our Bridges Missoula" was going to flip the switch on the second bridge at 10:30 this evening.

According to KECI:

Back in November, group members were able to flip the switch on a new light system at the Van Buren Street footbridge, and at 10:30 p.m. the group will light up the Madison Street walkway.

Fundraising began back in 2012, and now totals $195,000 for the two bridges. The funds are made up entirely by private donations. The goal is to make transit in the area safer.

The lighting really does add some extra safety for walkers and bikers, not to mention it is quite a sight to see. A beautiful addition to downtown Missoula.
