22 year-old Justin Delaney, the man involved in a high speed chase on Monday appeared in Missoula Justice Court to hear the charges against him.

Missoula Deputy County Attorney Mark Handelman asked Judge Landee Holloway for $75,000 bond.

“It’s alleged that this defendant stole a car and led law enforcement on a high speed chase,” began Handelman. “He went off road and destroyed numerous fences and gates, and then abandoned the vehicle, fled on foot and broke into a random person’s house. That person found the defendant hiding in his basement and then escorted him outside at gunpoint.”

Handelman said Delaney was also wanted for various offenses in Idaho.

“Law enforcement found methamphetamine inside the stolen vehicle,” he said. “Furthermore, the defendant is a parole absconder and has an active no bond warrant out of Idaho. The state will be filing a fugitive complaint against him once this matter concludes. It seems that the defendant also proved that he is a substantial flight risk by his conduct in this matter.”

Judge Holloway set bond at $75,000 and remanded Delaney back to the Missoula County Jail.
