Missoula Police were involved in a high-speed chase this morning, August 8, after an officer noticed suspicious activity on the Orange Street Bridge at around 12:28 A.M.

"An officer observed two vehicles obviously racing across the Orange Street Bridge," said Missoula police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh. "He attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicles failed to yield. At one point they split up. The officer, stayed with one of the vehicles, which led him on a pursuit through town and eventually ended in the 500 block of Iowa in East Missoula."

As the chase continued, the suspect added more charges to his record, when the car finally stopped the young man, now identified as Alan Scott Kite, tried to run away and hide.

"The male did attempt to flee on foot, however, when a perimeter had been established, he came out of some brush and identified himself as the driver," Welsh said.

Kite is now facing eight charges, including speeding, failing to yield, traveling in the wrong direction on a one way street, stop sign violation, criminal endangerment, and eluding a police officer.
