A memorial is planned west of Three Forks on Thursday to honor the youngest Montana Highway Patrol officer killed in the line of duty.

Trooper David DeLaittre was 23 when he was shot a year ago Thursday by 56-year-old Errol Brent Bouldin during a traffic stop outside of Three Forks.

Bouldin was found dead several hours later of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

DeLaittre's father, Dennis DeLaittre, is asking people to bring a flashlight to his son's memorial park at the intersection of Montana Highway 2 and Lane Road.

At 4:20 p.m., the time his son was killed, he wants law enforcement officers to turn their top lights on and those who attend the memorial to shine flashlights into the sky because "maybe David's looking down to see we still remember him."
