National Writing Prize To Be Named For BBER Emeritus Director Paul Polzin

Paul Polzin, director Emeritus at the University of Montana Bureau of Business and Economic Research has been honored for his years of service, by a national organization with having a writing prize named in his honor.

Current Director, Patrick Barkey, said the Association of University Bureaus of Economic Research (AUBER) is a national organization with more than 60 members.

"Dr. Polzin's history with the organization goes all the way back to 1968," Barkey said. "He has been the state's leading economist for several decades, and has devoted his entire career to understanding and helping other explore the Montana economy. What's less well known in Montana, on a national scale, he's had quite an impact as a researcher, a mentor, and as a leader in the national organization."

Barkey said the paper that wins the Polzin Prize will be the finest of the year submitted to the national organization.

"Here in Missoula, we'll definitely be throwing our hat in the ring," he said. "We'd like nothing better than to win the first award, and bring it home to Missoula."

This is the second AUBER honor bestowed upon Polzin. He also won the Thayne Robson Award, the highest honor that AUBER awards to an individual for longtime commitment and service to the organization.
