Have you ever thrown out dried goods because they went stale or you found meal worms feasting in them? Did you know there is a very simple way for you to save these precious goods from spoiling for years? Oven canning is really easy, and the best part of it is that you don’t have to buy a big expensive pressure cooker, jar lifters or pectin.

If you can pour dried goods into a jar, cook them in your oven, put a lid on the jars and then cook them a little longer, then you can oven can. I have done a little bit of traditional canning and believe me, it is not that easy. In my lifetime, I’ve spent countless hours stirring jams waiting for them to set up. So, when canning is made this easy, it’s hard for me not to want to do it.

I’m also one of those people who likes to keep a good sized food supply in my pantry, just in case. I’m not expecting the end of the world, but it never hurts to be prepared. I also love to buy in bulk, but get perturbed when the foods I buy go bad before I can use them all.

I forsee oven canning saving me money in the future. It is definitely on my list of things to do this weekend. I can’t wait to try it. I might even have to do a little shopping beforehand, so I have plenty of jars and plenty of dried goods to feed my oven.
