What kid, or what adult for that matter, wouldn't love to have a 'Prehistoric Passport', to visit places all over Montana that date back millions of years to the time when dinosaurs ruled the earth?

That's what the Montana Dinosaur Trail is all about, Communications Manager for the Montana Office of Tourism and Business Development, Dan Iverson, said the Dinosaur Trail is become more popular every year.

"The trail is a collaboration of 14 dinosaur museums across the state and they're mostly located throughout northern and eastern Montana, although there's also the Montana Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, and that's the big one," Iverson said. "The idea is to bring more visitors to Montana, and especially to the smaller communities where the museums are located."

Iverson said many of the museums offer more than just static fossil displays.

"A lot of them will have really great events where they'll actually do community digs where you get to go out and feel what it's like to be a real paleontologist," he said. "One community that does a great job of that is the Carter County Museum in Ekalaka, which, back in March, won a Montana tourism award for their annual 'Dino Shindig'. It's one of those events where the community can come in and participate in a dig experience."

In fact, paleontologists from around North America visit Ekalaka for lectures and public field dig experiences.
