A 57-year-old truck driver convicted of negligent homicide in a wintery 2008 crash that killed a volunteer firefighter is being sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Sergey Buslayev of Brooklynn, N.Y., was sentenced to 20 years Wednesday, with half the term suspended.

Buslayev was driving a FedEx truck when it jack-knifed on icy Interstate 90 and crashed into a stopped vehicle near DeBorgia. The crash killed 59-year-old Jerry Parrick.

Prosecutors say Parrick was in his truck with his emergency lights flashing and was parked "nearly a foot" off the interstate's driving lane when struck by the semi, which was traveling between 63 and 72 mph.

Prosecutors say Buslayev was violating several safety laws at the time of the crash.
