The U. S. Army War College announced on Friday, October 10, that the school has revoked Montana Senator John Walsh's graduate degree, finding that he plagiarized his Master's thesis.

The U.S. Army War College issued the following statement on Friday, October 10.

The U.S. Army War College completed today an Academic Review Board process in  accordance with its academic policy in order to examine the allegations of plagiarism by John Walsh in a research paper he submitted as a member of the AY2007 student body, while a Colonel in the Montana National Guard.

The College followed the same proceedings as with every student or graduate.

The board found that then Colonel John Walsh did commit the offense of plagiarism and thus his Master's Degree and status as graduate of the US Army War College should be revoked.

Mr. Walsh was afforded opportunities to submit comment and/or materials during the process. Reviews of legal sufficiency were completed.

The Army War College commandant notified Mr. Walsh on October 10 of the final decision to revoke his status as a graduate of the Army War College.

KGVO News contacted Senator Walsh's office in Washington, D.C. for a comment, and received the following from spokesman David Kuntz.

U.S. Senator John Walsh today released the following statement following today's decision by the U.S. Army War College to revoke his status as a graduate:

"Though I disagree with the findings made by the War College, I accept its decision with great humility and respect for the U.S. Military.  I apologize to all Montanans for the plagiarism in my 2007 paper, and I am prepared to live with its consequences.  I may not be a scholar but I am proud to have been a soldier who has served Montana and this great nation for 33 years in uniform.

"As Montanans choose their next U.S. Senator over the next few weeks, I will continue proudly serving this state through the end of this term. I look forward to fighting for veterans and their families.  I look forward to doing all we can for the small businesses that call our state home.  I will keep fighting for the freedom of choice and equal pay for women, and for access to our public lands.

Kuntz continued..

Walsh has been busy traveling Montana and visiting with Montanans, conducting his Senate work and participating in causes he supports, including a recent awareness walk for the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
