U.S. House Votes to Arm Syrian Rebels and Approves Continuing Resolution to Fund Government

Today, September 17, was a big day for the U.S. House, which passed a continuing resolution to fund the government through December 11 of 2014. The vote effectively delays another fiscal cliff until after the elections in November.

The resolution also included an amendment that would allow the U.S. to arm the Syrian Rebels currently fighting ISIS.

Montana Congressman Steve Daines voted to pass the continuing resolution, as did a majority of both parties.

• Republicans: 176 yes, 53 no
• Democrats:    143 yes, 55 no

“Today we did what was necessary to keep the government operating," said Daines. "It’s what the American people expect and deserve. Congress also took steps to address the direct threat posed by ISIL. I continue to have serious concerns with the President's plan to arm the Syrian rebels; however, failure to take any action is not an option.”
