One of the U.S. Marines killed in a terrorist attack in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Thursday attended the University of Montana for a short time.

Vice President for Integrated Communications Peggy Kuhr told KGVO News that Staff Sergeant David Wyatt attended UM in 2002.

"Staff Sergeant Wyatt was indeed an alum of the University of Montana," Kuhr said. "He attended here in the spring semester of 2002. We've worked hard to let the University of Montana family know that we have a former student who died in this terrible tragedy."

Kuhr confirmed that anyone who attends the University of Montana for at least one semester is considered an alumnus.

The Associated Press reports that the U.S. Navy has confirmed that the sailor who was shot in the attack on a military facility in Chattanooga has died, raising the death toll to five.
