University of Montana head football coach Mick Delaney has been nominated for the Liberty Mutual Insurance FCS Coach of the Year Award.

UM Athletic Director Kent Haslam said on Tuesday, December 10 that the award is well deserved.

"I think that's a real tribute to what coach Delaney has done this year that he would be nominated as coach of the year," Haslam said. "The award not only brings in his performance on the field, but also excellence in sportsmanship, integrity, responsibility and others that coach Delaney has done such a good job with."

Haslam said Delaney is in prestigious company for the award.

"He's in there with some pretty elite coaches, like Joe Moglia of Coastal Carolina, Craig Bohl of North Dakota State, who was just named the new head coach at the University of Wyoming, Joe Moorhead of Fordham and Ron Roberts of Southeastern Louisiana," Haslam said.

Haslam said the award comes with more than just a plaque.

"If he wins this, and fan voting is about 20% of the final tally, then he will have the opportunity to contribute $50,000 to the charity of his choice, plus $20,000 will go to the University of Montana Alumni Association for a scholarship." Haslam said. "The best way to vote is to go to the gogriz.com website and there are directions as to how to vote for Delaney for FCS coach of the year."
