Woman Causes Crash on Miller Creek Road

24 year-old Amanda Mays is in the Missoula County Jail charged with felony criminal endangerment and several other misdemeanors after allegedly driving under the influence of drugs, causing an accident and fleeing the scene on foot.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Mike Burman said the initial call was that Mays was involved in a driving altercation at Wal-Mart on Highway 93 late Monday night.

“Shortly thereafter, that same vehicle was involved in a crash on Upper Miller Creek Road near Kerr Drive,” said Burman. “The driver of the Ford Focus was driving aggressively behind another vehicle, attempted to pass that vehicle and there was a vehicle coming the other direction, and they had an oncoming sideswipe near head-on collision. The other vehicle was rolled, and the driver of the Focus fled the scene.”

Burman said Missoula Police and Missoula County Sheriff’s deputies provided assistance in locating Mays at a residence nearby.

The condition of the other driver is unknown.

“The person (Mays) had an outstanding warrant out of Ravalli County, and was picked up and brought back to the scene,” he said. “She was charged with felony criminal endangerment, along with a myriad of lesser traffic charges. We have filed a charge of driving under the influence, not necessarily alcohol, but rather a fast acting impairment substance.”

The jail roster lists the charges as felony criminal endangerment, DUI second offense, no insurance, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death and false reports to law enforcement.

Mays is in jail on over $50,000 bond, and will make her initial appearance in Missoula Justice Court on Wednesday afternoon.
