Air Force To Cut 140 Jobs At Missile Bases

The Air Force says it is cutting 140 civilian jobs at the three bases responsible for the nation's land-based nuclear missile force.

The cuts announced Monday are part of a plan to reduce 220 civilian positions under the Air Force's Global Strike Command.

Global Strike Command's press office did not have an immediate comment on the cuts. A prepared statement by the command said the changes are being made "in accordance with the Air Force's required efficiency and force structure posture changes" but did not detail the jobs being lost.

The cuts include 60 positions at Wyoming's F.E. Warren Air Force Base; 45 positions at Montana's Malmstrom AFB; and 35 positions at North Dakota's Minot AFB.

Those bases oversee 450 Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles carrying nuclear warheads.
