The Big Sky Conference introduced its new commissioner, Andrea Williams, during a telephone press conference on Tuesday.

Williams comes to the position with a great deal of experience in collegiate athletics, having served as the associate commissioner for the Big Ten Conference for the past 10 years.

"I came in as one of the finalists for the position, and the people here just absolutely wowed me. The thing that truly impressed me was the people that were sitting around the table, how much they were engaged, they were committed, to the conference and to the student athletes at every level. I knew right away it would be a great fit, so I couldn't wait to move here and get started."

Williams said her years of experience in the Big Ten Conference prepared her for her new position.

"I hate to admit it, but I already have 20-plus years of experience in the athletic world," she said. "That started as a student-athlete at Texas A&M University. My background since then has been in television, so it stems from communications, to marketing, to officiating,to event management, so I have been exposed to a number of areas in athletics, at the institutional level, the conference level or within the national office."

Williams earned her Masters Degree in Business Administration from Ohio State University just last month.

She replaces retiring commissioner Doug Fullerton.

She will begin her duties at Big Sky Conference Commissioner on July 1.
