Russell Elementary School is ready to show off its new look at the entire community at an open house on Thursday evening.

MCPS Communications Director Hatton Littman outlined some of the changes visitors will see at Russell Elementary.

“As you approach the school, you’ll see there is brand new sod and new landscaping, so some of that will be roped off so that it’s not damaged,” said Littman. “The front entrance has been renovated to be more secure. You’ll also notice that the lunchroom is brand new, renovated out of a former space, and there are two brand new classroom pods.”

Littman said long time residents of Missoula will notice what is no longer at Russell School.

“The biggest thing that people will notice is the old antiquated annexes are finally gone,” she said. “We had trailers that were on the site since the 1960’s that had been intended to be removed for a long time, but as part of our comprehensive Smart Schools 2020 bond, those were removed and the school was renovated to accommodate the space they provided.”

The open house at Russell Elementary School at 3216 South Russell near the YMCA will start at 6:30 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.
