The Montana Grizzlies came to a turning point this last season. They were 2-1 on the young season and ranked 10th in the FCS when they traveled to California to play Sacramento State. The Hornets had never beaten the Griz before in 16 tries, but that was about to change.

Montana came out flat and played by far their worst game of the year. The defense, who was one of the best in the Big Sky this year, gave up 462 yards. The result was a deflating 42-28 loss for a team that looked to be on the rise.

The team had already defeated the former national champ Eastern Washington and was looking to keep pace with the Montana State Bobcats, who were picked to win the Big Sky in 2011.

Then the Griz made a run similar to the ones in 2004 and 2008. Both of those years the team had a terrible road loss yet recovered to make the FCS Championship game. They won nine straight from that point on, including a 36-10 thrashing of the Cats, giving the Griz the Big Sky title and the first round playoff bye.

Even though the road ended in the semifinals with a loss to Sam Houston State, Coach Pflugrad was still proud of his team. The future looks bright at Washington-Grizzly Stadium and the boys will make us proud.
