Authorities are investigating the death of a 59-year-old hunter near Flesher Pass north of Helena.

Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton says that the man died Saturday and his body was taken out on a sled pulled by a snowmobile about 4 p.m. to an ambulance.

Dutton says the man and his hunting partner split up. When he didn't return to the vehicle the hunting partner went looking and found him face down in the snow. He then ran to a home and called 911.

Dutton says the cause of death is unknown but it does not appear to be suspicious.

The man's name has not been released.

The big game hunting season ended Sunday.
