If you've ever been on Flathead Lake in April, chasing spring perch on the East Bay, you know that water by Bird Point hits differently. That smooth blue glide and the way the wind tucks around the jutting peninsula. It can make you slip into daydreams of dropping anchor forever. I’ve boated by that spot more times than I can remember, looking at that private piece of Flathead Lake like it was a mirage. Now it’s officially for sale. I only need to raise $10.25 million, and I’m good.

Our "newish" U.S. Senator Tim Sheehy, Montana’s latest political import into D.C., is selling his seven acres on Bird Point. And yes, it comes with two guest structures and 360 degrees of lake jealousy. First reported by the Flathead Beacon, the listing appeared this week, and it’s already getting buzz. Not just because of the price tag, but because of what it might suggest about Sheehy’s future plans.

I’m not saying the job is getting to him, but if I had to juggle D.C. traffic, committee hearings, and people yelling about everything all the time, I might want to unload my happy place, too. Still, it stings just a bit to think that slice of Montana paradise might end up owned by someone who refers to anything on a lake that’s less than five acres as “a starter pack.”

I don’t know if Sheehy ever dropped by Zimmer Tackle in Pablo, but he’d get that the real value of that peninsula isn’t the land or the buildings. It’s being minutes from your favorite fishing spot or the perch bite just outside the bay, and the kind of peace you can’t legislate.

For now, I guess I’ll just keep trolling around the East Bay! Wishing I had a bigger boat and a bigger checkbook.
