If you have been to a Walmart in the last few months, chances are you can use your imagination. Same layout. Same person wearing Tweety Bird pajamas. Every time you walk in, it is the same process.

That may not last much longer.

Walmart is currently renovating hundreds of stores across the nation, and while no word has been given on Montana yet, it feels more like a “when” than an “if.”

A Big Push Toward The Future

The changes are more than skin deep. What you are witnessing is Walmart's effort to completely reform the style of present buying.

We are talking bigger aisles and bigger tech.

One you may have already noticed is the digital price tags. No more guessing what the shelf is versus what it rings up at. You also tend to hear the stores lean into app-based features, such as Scan & Go, where you can skip the line altogether and pay from your phone.

And yes, actual STAFFED checkout lanes seem to be returning. Which means that Santa must have gotten my letter I sent last year.

Potential Implications for Montana

Walmart is one of those places used by nearly everyone in the state at some point. Groceries, camping equipment, and random stuff you end up buying there. A company of its size changing how the experience works is worth paying attention to.

Really fun to see it being Walmart of all enterprises taking the leading edge on things like this. Not exactly the first place that springs to mind when you say cutting-edge tech, but here we go.

An Alternative Shopping Trip

I guess at least that could make the entire Walmart run feel less painful in the end. Less time in line. Fewer pricing surprises. Or even delivery to your door in under an hour.

So, please do not call it luxury shopping, but know that it is one way things are going.

Montana shoppers are in the “coming soon” stage for now. But, when these upgrades land as Walmart hopes, your next visit could be much different than the one you know.
