Griz Basketball Picked To Have BIG Season

In the heart of football season, basketball is just a few short weeks away. The Montana Grizzlies started their season with an exhibition contest with Saint Martin's on Tuesday and open the regular season against Hawai'i Hilo on Monday, November 4 at Dahlberg Arena.

Big Sky Conference Men's Basketball Preseason Team and Poll

Earlier today, the 2024-2025 Big Sky Conference Men's Basketball polls and all-conference team were released. A press release from the Big Sky placed the Griz as the preseason favorites in the Coaches Poll and 2nd behind Montana State in the Media Poll.

Griz Guard Brandon Whitney was one of six players selected to the Preseason All-Conference team. Whitney was an Honorable Mention All-Big Sky performer a year ago and was selected to the All-Big Sky Tournament team in March. Whitney enters his 5th season with 122 games played and nearing 1300 career points.

Big Sky Conference Women's Basketball Preseason Team and Poll

While the men were picked in the top two of each preseason poll, the Montana Lady Griz aren't far off. The Lady Griz were slotted 3rd in both the coaches and media poll behind Montana State and Northern Arizona.

The Lady Griz had one player selected for the Preseason team: Dani Bartsch. The senior from Helena was a 2nd team All-Big Sky selection last year and an All-Defensive team member. Bartsch was in the top 10 in the nation in total rebounds with 342.

Montana opens its season on Tuesday, November 5th in Spokane against Gonzaga.
