Earlier this week, Griz linebacker Peyton Wing was named a preseason All-American by Stats Perform.
"I really appreciate it," Wing said on the All-America nod. "Getting the pre-season award is a huge honor, no doubt. But like you just said, I think what the most important thing is getting the honors after the season, and honestly, winning a ring and celebrating with my team."
Wing Explains His Breakout Season Creating Turnovers
Wing picked off opposing quarterbacks four times, leading to a First Team All-Big Sky honor.
"I mean, the scheme too, right place, right time, for sure," Wing said on his uptick in interceptions. "And I guess [last] year, I was able to catch it, luckily. I don't know, I guess I didn't have butterfingers, so that was good."
Adjusting to Four Defensive Coordinators in Four Years
Wing will be in his fourth defensive system in four years of college football. He had two DCs at Portland State, and now, with Eric Sanders taking over the role at UM, he'll make it four defensive coordinators in four collegiate seasons.
"It's something you can't really hang your hat on, you know? It's like the portal, like coaches go, players go, and there's a lot of things you can't control," Wing said on if it's frustrating to deal with so many new defensive coordinators and playbooks. "You just have to be able to adapt. That's the game."
