Top 10 All-Time Winningest Head Coaches In Grizzly Football History
Montana Grizzly Football has a rich history that dates back to 1897. That's 127 years of Montana Football. That's a lot of wins (and some losses I suppose).
The history of Montana Grizzlies head coaches
During the 127 years of Grizzly Football, the program has had 37 head coaches (36 if you count Bobby Hauck's two stints as one). Fred Smith was the inaugural head coach. Do you remember Coach Smith back in 1897 in the team's first run? That illustrious year when the Griz went 1-2-3.
Three ties! What a nonplus season.
How about the Sgt. F.B. Searight? Coach Searight took over for Coach Smith and led the Griz to a robust 3-2 season a year after THREE TIES. Do you remember Lt. W.C. Philoon? Coach Philoon coached for one season in 1912 and he was a no-nonsense kind of guy... I assume. He was a West Point grad, so I'm just assuming he ruled with an iron fist during his 4-2 season.
Coach Smith, Searight and Philoon won't find themselves on the top of the top 10 in wins all time, but they still deserve their shoutout.
