The FDA recently completed it's first steps in "pre-market consultation for human food made using animal cell culture technology". That means meat grown in a lab using animal cells. This is something that is out of a Science Fiction movie, or cartoon. There will be more steps that will need to be taken before the lab grown meat will be featured on a dinning room table in Montana.

Montana Beef

Montana has some of the most amazing "grass fed beef" in the country, in my opinion. A few years ago I was lucky enough to get the chance to buy a quarter cow, and it was fantastic. It was an investment, and for me and my family it was worth it. I was supporting our Montana ranchers.

Lab Meat

I recently asked the question online, "Would you eat meat grown in a lab?". I've lived here long enough to have guessed the answers I would get. Overall the resounding answer was "no".

Not Surprising

Not one person who responded online said that they were willing to eat meat that was grown in a lab. Some were more polite than others. I have tried the "Impossible Whopper" from Burger King, which is a "plant-based burger". I can, honestly, say it was good, but then again I probably defeated the purpose by having them add bacon and cheese. I do feel like I expanded my horizons by at least ordering something plant-based. I don't know if I am ready to eat meat that is grown in a lab, yet. I can tell you that some of the food that I ate in my school lunches when I was a kid in the '70s and '80s was probably way worse than what they are going to come up with in a lab these days. So are you ready to eat meat that has been grown in a lab? It will be happening sooner than you think.

The Guerrilla Turkey Drive started at Z100 in Missoula, Montana in 1994. Every year since then we've been helping to feed families in Western Montana with the help of local food banks.
