Let's go get lost, let's go get lost... - Red Hot Chili Peppers' Road Trippin'

Road trips can be the best of times and sometimes the worst of times. If you're road-tripping through a beautiful place like Glacier National Park you'll have a good time. If you're forced to road trip through North Dakota to go home for a wedding 18 hours away, you'll have a miserable time. Apologies to North Dakotans, but good lord it's a tough drive.

Well, apparently Montana isn't a road-tripping state either. A WalletHub study deemed Montana as the 4th worst state for summer road-trips.

The financial website ranked all 50 states by how "fun and wallet-friendly" a road trip could be. The study's categories were:

  • Number of attractions
  • Lowest price of three star hotel rooms
  • Average gas prices
  • Nightlife options per capita
  • Vehicle miles traveled per capita
  • Car thefts per capita
  • Access to scenic byways
  • Lowest price of camping
  • Driving laws rating
  • Fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled

Montana did not do well in ANY of the categories. The best placement was "Car thefts per capita" where Montana ranked 25th. We didn't place higher in any other category. Our lowest-ranked category was "Driving laws rating," checking in at 48th.

The only four states that ranked worse than the Treasure State were Connecticut, Rhode Island and Delaware.

The top five states on the list were Texas, Minnesota, New York, Louisiana and Florida.

To those who don't think Montana is a beautiful drive then I present to you the "Best scenic drives in Montana."
