Yesterday, news broke that Missoula Composites, owned by Roseburg Forest Products, would close for good in May. It's an unfortunate blow to the Missoula job market. It's an estimated 150 jobs will be lost.

Missoula Composites became the second significant closing in Western Montana just in the last week. Earlier, Pyramid Mountain Lumber closed almost an exact week before Missoula Composites.

Today prominent Montana politicians responded to the announcement. Governor Greg Gianforte, Senator Steve Daines and Senator Jon Tester all voiced their opinions and plans moving forward.

Gianforte

Montana's 25th Governor Greg Gianforte took to Twitter to publicize that he reached out to the Department of Labor for assistance.

"Following Roseburg's decision to close its Missoula operation, I directed the Department of Labor & Industry to support employees and provide them and their families with a smooth transition to new opportunities. We're committed to helping them through this challenging time."

Tester

Missoula-based Senator Jon Tester also commented on the closure through Twitter. He also gave an amorphous comment about aiding those in impacted by the recent news.

"Roseburg Forest Products created good-paying jobs that have helped power the Missoula economy for decades. I'm disappointed to see it close. I'm in touch with company and local officials and will work to provide any available assistance to the workers and families affected."

Daines

Senator Daines stated the following in an email.

"The impending closure of Roseburg Forest Products is a huge blow to the Missoula community. Roseburg has been an important part of Montana's wood products sector and a major employer in the area. This is incredibly disappointing news."
