Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - At approximately 1:24 p.m. on April 2, 2025, a Missoula Police Department Officer was dispatched to an apartment in the 1900 block of Maple Street for a welfare check. The caller reported that a male was walking around his apartment without shoes on.

He further stated that the male tried to get into his vehicle. After eventually walking away from the vehicle, the male went across the street and laid in the back of an unknown person’s truck. Dispatch then received a second call. That caller reported that a male was trying to take things from her kitchen.

The officer arrived on scene and met with the first caller. He stated that he and his girlfriend were in his car. He was trying to back out of his driveway, but the male was in the way and would not move. The male then went to the back passenger side of his car and tried to open the door while he and his girlfriend were in the car.

Then, the caller saw the male walking down a driveway and pointed him out to the officer. The officer immediately recognized the male as 28-year-old Kordell Cummins from prior law enforcement encounters. The officer has contacted Kordell on multiple occasions, and each time, Kordell had been intoxicated. The officer went across the street to speak with Kordell, who smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage.

Then, the officer spoke with the second caller. The caller stated that Kordell went into her business and began going through her kitchen, looking for items. He was opening and closing cabinets that were not accessible to the public. The caller told him to leave but he refused. She had to tell him multiple times to leave the area.

Once Kordell left the area, she noticed that her watch was missing. Her watch had previously been sitting next to her husband’s coffee cup. Kordell was asked to show his watch, and he complied. According to court documents, he was wearing the watch that he stole from the caller.

Kordell apologized and stated he didn’t know it was hers. He then looked at the officer and shrugged his shoulders. The officer then transported Kordell to the Missoula County Detention Center. While at the jail, he provided jail staff with a preliminary breath test sample of .227. He is currently being charged with felony burglary.

The officer reviewed Kordell’s history of law enforcement contacts and located 9 incidents that had occurred since February 19th of 2025. These included attempting to get into a security vehicle with his pants around his ankles while intoxicated, exposing himself while intoxicated in a fast food restaurant, and going behind the counter of a Missoula business and using the computer without permission. Kordell currently has four open Municipal Court cases.
