Man Tries to Return Stolen Items, Gets Caught With Meth in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On November 27, 2022, Missoula Police Department officers responded to a store in the 2900 block of Brooks Street. A male reportedly tried to return merchandise to the store that had been stolen from the same store located in Great Falls, Montana. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold picks up the story.
“The caller provided the vehicle description and provided the license plate of the vehicle that the male got into,” Arnold said. “An officer arrived on the scene and located the vehicle. The man was outside the vehicle and when they saw the officer, they quickly got into the vehicle and started to drive away. The vehicle came to a stop a short distance away from the store.”
According to court documents, the male refused to exit the vehicle and had to be removed by law enforcement.
“The officer identified themselves, the reason for the stop, and the criminal investigation,” Arnold said. “The male refused to comply with the officer’s commands and provided a false name to the officers. It was not until later in the stop that the identity of the male was confirmed as Tristan Dodge. During the investigation, dangerous drugs were located during a consent search.”
Court documents indicate Dodge was advised of his rights and said he gave a false name because he had a warrant out of Great Falls. Dodge also denied knowing anything about stolen property and claimed to have purchased the merchandise off of Facebook. The store pulled up pictures from the original theft in Great Falls and the person in the video matched Dodge.
During a search of Dodge’s vehicle, officers found $2,400 in cash and a small baggie of methamphetamine. Dodge stated that he did not know any meth was left in the bag, but acknowledged it belonged to him.
Dodge is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, obstructing a peace officer, and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
