Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On October 15, 2025, a Missoula Police Department Officer responded to a theft in the 4800 block of N. Reserve St. John Doe reported that his vehicle and trailer were broken into and approximately $10,000 worth of his property was stolen including a bridesmaid dress, Tuxedo, Dyson Airwrap hair curler, black Gucci purse, gold Gucci clutch, and brand new Milwaukee brand power tools.

On the morning of October 16, another officer was dispatched to a theft report that occurred at Pet Emergency Center. The caller, Jane Doe, reported that she lost or had her wallet stolen. She reported she received notification of an approximately $1,900 charge made at Murdoch’s. Doe said she also received notification that there was an attempted charge of over $2,800 at Best Buy that was unsuccessful due to the card being maxed out from the Murdoch’s purchase.

The officer responded to Murdoch’s to obtain video surveillance from when the $1,900 purchase was made. An employee provided the officer with the receipt for the transaction. The last four digits of the card that was used to purchase the items were the same as Doe’s missing credit card.

The Officer Observed a Second Male at Best Buy

Then the officer responded to Best Buy. An employee accessed the surveillance video and showed the officer the attempted transaction. In the video, the officer observed two white males. The second male was wearing a black baseball cap and a maroon sweatshirt.

The vehicle the men arrived in and the license plate were also visible on the video. The officer learned that the vehicle was rented at the Kalispell Dollar location on October 13 by a female. The officer searched the female’s name and noted she was listed in a theft case from May. In that case, a male named Hagen Daniels was arrested for theft. The officer reviewed prior booking photos of Daniels and strongly believed the male at Best Buy was indeed Daniels.

At approximately 7:20 a.m. on October 18, the officer located the involved vehicle traveling south on N. Reserve St. The officer immediately recognized that male to be Daniels. The officer exited his vehicle and apprehended Daniels without incident. Inside the vehicle in plain view, the officer observed two Titan 440 paint sprayers that matched those stolen from John Doe.

Daniels Admitted to Finding and Using Doe's Wallet

Daniels told the officer that he found Jane Doe’s wallet on the side of Reserve Street near the bridge while he was driving. Daniels also admitted he attempted to purchase over $2,800 worth of products at Best Buy on a credit card from that wallet.

While the officer was transporting Daniels to the jail, he told him he had been staying at the Motel 6 at the Wye. The officer obtained a warrant to search the hotel room. While executing the search, another officer observed a white male who was wearing the same clothing as the second male in the Best Buy surveillance video. The male identified himself as Daniel Logan. The officer compared the photo of Logan to the Best Buy surveillance video and confirmed the unidentified male was indeed Logan.

Inside the hotel room, officers located several items that were stolen from John Doe. On the morning of October 19, the officer began a warrant search of the rental vehicle. The officer located Jane Doe’s bank cards, insurance cards, her high school student ID, and driver’s license.
