Missoula Jail Staff Find Drugs in a Female’s Genitals and Bra

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On December 30, 2023, at around 12:43 p.m., Missoula Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of a female that was slumped over the wheel of a running vehicle in the 600 block of South West Higgins. Upon arrival, the officer was led to a parking garage by two people who had observed the female. The officer ran the license plate of the vehicle and found it to be registered to 40-year-old Melissa Brooks. 

The officer approached the vehicle and observed a black “tooter” straw lying on a purse in the front seat. The officer knows from his training and experience that this item is used to ingest dangerous drugs. The officer loudly knocked on the driver's side window several times before the female awoke. The female appeared to be confused and had a difficult time keeping her eyes open.  

Officer Identifies the Female 

The officer asked the female to shut the vehicle off multiple times because each time she would acknowledge the request but would fail to turn the vehicle off. The female eventually shut the vehicle off and was identified as Melissa Brooks. Brooks opened the driver’s side door and as she did, the officer observed an uncapped syringe with a clear substance inside. 

Another officer investigated Brooks for impairment and ultimately found she was not impaired by alcohol and/or drugs but was not fit to drive. The original officer asked Brooks about the loaded syringe. According to court documents, Brooks stated that the needle belonged to her, but she didn’t inject herself. Instead, she said she will squirt the liquid into her mouth and swallow it. Brooks said the substance inside of the needle was methamphetamine and further stated the last time she used dangerous drugs was that morning. 

Brooks is Taken to Jail 

Brooks was placed under arrest and taken to the Missoula County Detention Center. While the officer was filling out paperwork, court documents indicate he was informed by the jail that they had located drugs hidden in Brooks’ vaginal area and under her bra. The officer observed two clear baggies. One contained 12 fentanyl pills and the other contained a crystal-like substance that appeared to be methamphetamine but tested inconclusive.  

The officer applied for and was granted a search warrant for Brooks’ car. Officers found a loaded hypodermic needle of meth, butane torches, a glass pipe, tooter straws, two pieces of burnt tinfoil, butane fluid, two containers filled with liquid methadone, and a black digital scale. 

Brooks is currently being charged with three counts of felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
