At approximately 12:11 p.m. on January 22, an officer responded to a report from Fast Trip on Reserve St. 9-1-1 had received a report that a female had stolen a bottle of water and assaulted a caller. The female was described as wearing a dark blue beanie, a black hoodie with a design, blue leggings, and a black backpack.

Officers located and detained a female matching the description on the sidewalk adjacent to the Winco Parking lot, which is near the Fast Trip business. The female identified herself as Rechelle Williams.

An officer then went to the Fast Trip and spoke with a male employee, John Doe. Doe stated that a female had walked into the store and grabbed a water bottle from the refrigerator. She then exited the business without paying, and Doe followed her and made contact in the parking lot.

Doe told her to give the water bottle back, and she “side shoved” him with a forearm, which caused him to step backwards. The female then raised her hands and started swinging at him with closed fists. Doe held up his arm in self-defence, and his arm was hit multiple times. He then backed inside the store and told another employee to call 9-1-1. Doe did not have injuries that were visible or that required medical attention.

The officer observed interior surveillance footage of Fast Trip and observed a female he recognized as Williams taking a water bottle from the refrigerator and exiting the store without paying, followed by Doe. The area where the assault occurred was not visible on surveillance footage obtained to this point.

Williams was arrested and transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. She is currently being charged with felony robbery, and her bond was set at $25,000. As of January 29, at 8:18 AM, Williams was still in jail.
