Missoula Storage Facility Theft Linked To Social Media Post
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On August 5, 2025, a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office deputy spoke with a storage owner regarding a theft he reported at his facility. He reported the theft on July 30, 2025. He wanted to show the deputy video evidence of the case and let him know about some victims that he identified. The deputy obtained contact information for, and spoke with, the victims. The deputy determined that the total value of all missing items reported at that time was $2,505.55.
From reviewing prior law enforcement reports and speaking with the storage owner, the deputy learned that a male had previously rented a parking space at the storage facility to live in his camper on the property. That man had sold Makinzie Linger the camper and gave her his security code for the storage facility. When he sold Makinzie the camper, he said another guy was with her who was on parole.
According to the storage owner, the male’s password had been used to access the storage facility during the thefts. Security footage showed a late 2000s era GMC 2500, grey, extended cab with black rims, big wheels, and a chrome grill guard.

The Deputy Reviews the Video
The video showed Makinzie and an unidentified male coming into the storage facility, parking their truck, rummaging through campers or trailers stored on the scene, and placing items in the truck.
On August 6, 2025, the storage owner told the deputy he saw a Facebook listing from Makinzie Linger for the same batteries that were reported stolen. After further investigation, the deputy learned Makinzie was dating 42-year-old William “Billy” Newhoff.
Billy had a 2008 gray GMC matching the suspect vehicle. The deputy sent the new information to other law enforcement, who verified it matched with their body camera history. The deputy observed body camera snapshots that show Makinzie and Billy both in the vehicle. Billy was on probation, and after speaking to probation, he learned that Billy had a history of theft.

The Deputy Interviews the Suspects
On August 11th, 2025, the deputy conducted interviews with Makinzie and Billy. Billy affirmed the GMC truck was his work truck and he is the primary person to use it. According to court documents, Billy denied knowledge of the theft.
Makinzie told the deputy she did look in an “unlocked” storage unit and go around a few boats and vehicles. She claimed she was only picking up litter on the ground and rocks she found. She also denied knowledge of the theft.
Makinzie and Billy were both arrested and transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. They are both currently being charged with felony accountability to commit theft.
