Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - Montana Governor Greg Gianforte called into the KGVO Newsmakers line on Wednesday, and the first thing out of his mouth was praise for a Missoula-based business called The Oxbow Cattle Company.

Governor Gianforte Visited the Oxbow Cattle Company in Missoula

“We went down to Oxbow Cattle Company,” began Governor Gianforte. “Bart and Wendy are their names and it’s their operation. They raise cattle right there in the Bitterroot. I picked up a couple of ribeye (steaks) and some ground meat. They have a shop right there. If you want Montana meat, I would encourage you to go visit them. It’s called the Oxbow Cattle Company.”

Gianforte praised the Montana Department of Agriculture for encouraging businesses like the Oxbow Cattle Company.

Gianforte Praised the Work of the Montana Department of Agriculture

“Our Department of Agriculture is working with young producers across the state, and whenever we find innovation, we like to go visit and shine a bright light on it,” he said. “What Bart and Wendy Morris have done is they've gone direct ranch-to-table.”

Gianforte said he also visited the company’s retail store while he was there.

“They have a retail store just south of Missoula, and it's open to the public,” he said. “You go in, and it operates on the honor system. You go through the freezer, you might pick out a tenderloin or a ribeye, or maybe some ribs and each has a price on it. You just leave a check or you can ‘Venmo’ them the money.”

Gianforte Said He Loves Eating Foods Produced in Montana

Gianforte said he loves to eat Montana-made and produced foods, and the Oxbow Cattle Company filled the bill.

“They're selling about 300 cows a year in parts through that shop,” he said. “They also have relationships with some other producers, so they have farm fresh eggs, they have lamb, they have pork, all available there. And I just, I'm telling you I was salivating. I picked up a couple of rib eyes, and I'm looking forward to tying into those.”

Governor Gianforte is continuing his fourth annual 56-county tour of the state.
