Two Drivers Killed in Fiery Missoula Head-on Crash

A head-on collision caused by a wrong-way driver took two lives in Missoula over the weekend.

Montana Highway Patrol says a 21-year-old intoxicated driver from Florence was eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-90 in a Hyundai late Saturday night when he hit an oncoming car, which rotated counterclockwise and came to rest on the north shoulder. The Hyundai, overturned in the median, caught fire, with the driver dying when he was ejected.

     Troopers say the 26-year-old woman from Arlee, driving the second car, was already dead when emergency crews arrived on the scene.

Investigation continues on Homecoming tragedy in the Bitterroot

Ravalli County deputies are investigating a tragedy on Friday afternoon, where a 12-year-old boy was killed when he fell off a homecoming parade float in Florence.

Montana Highway Patrol says the youth was on the trailer, being pulled by a pickup, when he fell and was run over by the trailer.

Florence Carlton school leaders canceled the homecoming game and are expected to continue working with students to help them work through the grief.

Bike rider dies near Billings

A 69-year-old Billings man was killed Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle was rear-ended on a state highway near Huntley.

Montana Highway Patrol says the victim was riding eastbound on Highway 312 when he slowed down "abruptly" to turn into a business, and the car following him slammed into his Harley. Troopers say he wasn't wearing a helmet and was killed. A 25-year-old Billings woman and a 3-year-old in the car weren't injured, but were taken to the hospital to be checked out.

Lightning sparks more Montana fires

Lightning caused more fires in Western Montana Sunday afternoon and evening, including one in Lolo, but crews responded quickly, also getting some help from brief heavy rains from those thunderstorms.

Montana DNRC reported 8 new fire starts yesterday, but all were small. Gusty winds were also hitting parts of North Central Montana through the evening.
