Bitterroot National Forest Needs Campground Hosts This Summer
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On March 18, 2024, the Bitterroot National Forest announced that they are seeking volunteers to serve as onsite camp hosts this summer. According to Public Affairs Officer Tod McKay, the Darby-Sula Ranger District is looking for a camp host for Spring Gulch Campground. In addition, the Stevensville Ranger District has openings for camp hosts at Charles Waters Campground and Blodgett Campground. However, the Blodgett Campground has no water or septic hook-ups.
“Campground hosts play an important role in assisting with the management of these areas and working directly with the public,” said McKay. “Volunteers are rewarded with a nice place to stay during the summer, a modest daily stipend to cover living expenses, lasting friendships, and a sense of pride in keeping the sites safe and communicating with the public about our National Forests.”
McKay said opportunities range from office settings to field going. Additionally, the Bitterroot National Forest has many developed campgrounds situated in beautiful settings.
“Typical duties include informing visitors of recreational opportunities, answering questions from visitors, monitoring campground sites for fee compliance, recording daily occupancy levels, maintaining campground facilities and more,” McKay said. “Hosts are provided a designated camping spot. Depending on the site, water, sewer, and electric hook-ups may be available.”
