Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - It's car-free and people-powered, and it’s coming to Missoula on Sunday, September 7!

It’s the Sunday Streets Program, and all of western Montana is invited to attend.

Sunday Streets Program Features the North Side Neighborhood

I spoke with Katherine Auget, Program Manager for Missoula in Motion about the annual event .

“This year, Sunday Streets Missoula is happening in the North Side neighborhood, so we are closing down one mile of streets to cars just for the afternoon, to open it up to people for biking, walking and tons of activities hosted by local organizations,” began Auget. “There will also be free fitness classes on the hour, and two live bands playing, and we'll also have a number of food vendors.”

Activities from Salsa Dancing to the Missoula Curling Club will be Available

Auget said the Sunday gathering will have events of interest for all Missoulians and other visitors.

“We're really excited about the lineup this year,” she said. “We have everything from salsa dancing to (the) Missoula Curling Club. That's a little curling area. The Clay Studio is doing an activity where you can make your own bird feeder. There will be tons of arts and crafts, and then other activity events, including Shine Fitness will be there, in addition to Orange Theory; so there's just really a lot going on this year, and we're very excited. A lot of cornhole (games) provided by some organizations, and things like that.”

The Event is Celebrating the new Traffic Calming Roundabout

Sunday will also include a special mural painting to celebrate the new traffic calming roundabout on the North Side.

A New Mural will be Painted During the Event

There was a traffic calming circle installed at Cooley and Home Street, and we are actually having a mural installed at that intersection, and the part of Sunday Streets will be painting that mural. So that will be that was a really great way to kind of highlight the traffic calming and the city making it safer for people on foot and on bike, and encouraging people to get around by those modes.”

The event is Sunday, September 7 from noon to 4:00 p.m. and is free to the public from Missoula in Motion.
