Missoula Man Threatens His Former Employer With a Shotgun
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On November 16, 2023, a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the area of Lacasse Lane to reports of an incident involving a firearm. The deputy contacted the caller and learned that the caller’s client, J.A., had just called him and stated that a former employee and tenant, 62-year-old David Weik, had pulled a camping trailer onto the property.
J.A. said Weik had cocked a shotgun and threatened him and his grandson. The caller told the deputy that Weik had his trailer removed from Lacasse Lane by J.A. the day prior after Weik had refused to move it for over a month.
The caller stated Weik had no lawful right to be on the property and had not been staying there. Weik’s tenancy on the property was based on his employment by J.A. The caller stated that the agreement between J.A. and Weik was such that when Weik’s employment ended, he would move off the property.
Upon arrival, the deputies encountered Weik and detained him in handcuffs. Weik stated he pulled up to the property and saw J.A. and J.A.’s grandson working on the property. Weik admitted to being upset and yelling during the altercation but denied wielding a firearm. Weik admitted to having two loaded shotguns in his vehicle.
The deputy next spoke with J.A., who advised he and his grandson had been working on his property when Weik arrived. He said Weik had a shotgun in his hand and that Weik proceeded to pump the shotgun, loading it. J.A. stated Weik began screaming profanities and stated, “If you come over here, I’ll kick you’re a**, I’ll kill you.”
The deputy learned Weik is federally prohibited from possessing firearms. The deputy applied for and was granted a search warrant for Weik’s vehicle. The search yielded two shotguns sitting on the bench seat of Weik’s registered vehicle in plain view. According to court documents, one shotgun was loaded with a shell in the chamber and the safety off.
Weik was placed under arrest and was transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. He is currently being charged with felony assault with a weapon.
