Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On October 19, 2024, at approximately 4:19 PM, a Missoula Police Department Officer responded to the area of Toole Avenue and Burton Street to assist in a traffic stop on a vehicle with four occupants. The officer arrived, looked into the vehicle, and recognized the front female passenger, 21-year-old Madison Vetter. Dispatch discovered that Vetter had a no-bail felony warrant out of Kootenai, Idaho for a probation violation. Vetter was arrested and detained without further incident.

The officer then contacted the on-call Probation Officer for Kootenai County and obtained authority to search Vetter’s purse. Inside, the officer discovered tinfoil with a very small amount of off-white-looking powder. The officer told Vetter that she would not be charged with criminal possession of dangerous drugs for residue, but asked her what it was for their information, and she stated if anything, it would be methamphetamine.

While being transported to the jail, Vetter told the officer that she had a meth pipe stuck up her pants on the side of her thigh that was not discovered during her search incident to arrest. Once at the jail, the clear, glass, methamphetamine pipe was discovered and seized by jail staff. Vetter said she placed the pipe in her pants through the hole in her pants on her knee prior to the traffic stop.

Following the interview, the officer walked out to their patrol vehicle to leave the jail. The officer checked the back seat and discovered a clear/white crystalline substance sprinkled all over the seat that Vetter was sitting in. The officer inspected the area, and from their training and experience, recognized the substance to be meth.

The officer walked back into the jail and confronted Vetter about why there was suspected meth all over the back seat of the patrol vehicle. Initially, Vetter denied knowing about it, but once the officer told her that they had gotten a car wash prior to arresting her and that the back seat had been thoroughly cleaned prior to her arrest, she admitted, “That was my fault”. She said she was itching her leg, and it must have just fallen out of her pocket.

The officer scraped up as much of the substance out of the back seat as they could, placed it into a baggy, and then transported both the substance and the pipe that was discovered on Vetter to the police station. Once at the station, the substance was tested with a TruNarc Scanner which resulted in a presumptive positive for meth.

Vetter is currently being charged with felony tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstructing a peace officer. Her bond was set at $5,000.
