On August 23, 2022, a Missoula Police Department officer was dispatched to the Poverello Center for a disturbance. An adult female called 911 and reported that a female named Amy had threatened her and assaulted her in the courtyard. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.

“Amy Hout is under arrest for assault with a weapon after threatening to kill people with a metal stake at the Poverello Center,” said Arnold. “Officers took preliminary victim and witness statements and it was described to officers Hout was in the fenced-off courtyard of the Poverello Center yelling and making comments about killing people.”

According to court documents, the victim reported that Hout was threatening to kill and stab everyone. As the victim sat at a picnic table, Hout walked up behind her with a metal cork-screw dog stake, held it up against her neck, and yelled that she was going to stab her. The victim advised she was in fear for her life and thought Hout was going to kill her.

“A victim suggested Hout go for a walk and attempt to calm down,” Arnold said. “Instead, Hout grabbed a metal stake and put the stake against the victim’s neck. While holding the metal stake, Hout made comments about killing. Witnesses described seeing this and thinking the victim was about to be killed in front of them. When officers spoke with Hout, she provided the location of the metal stake she had used. Hout was taken into custody and this case is still under investigation with the Missoula Police Detective Division.”

An employee of the Poverello Center said Hout also approached him with the dog stake and threatened to kill and stab him. He advised that Hout attempted to grab a box cutter knife that he had kicked away from her as she was attempting to stab him. The officer located the dog stake in the bush behind Hout.

Hout is currently being charged with one count of felony assault with a weapon. On Wednesday, she made her initial appearance in Missoula Justice Court, and her bail was set at $5,000.

On November 3, 2021, Hout was charged with burglary, theft, and criminal trespass to vehicles. At that time, Hout had at least three prior convictions of theft in the previous five years.

On October 1, 2021, Hout was charged with aggravated burglary after she attacked a Citilodge Motel employee who wouldn’t give her drugs.
