Wrong Way Driver Arrested After Midnight Misadventure
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - At approximately 2:40 a.m. on July 11, 2025, a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a vehicle driving East on Broadway. The deputy followed the vehicle and observed it heading East on Main Street. Main Street is a one-way street that runs from East to West. The deputy initiated a traffic stop shortly after, as the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Scott Chaussee, had not realized he was driving the wrong way.
When the deputy approached the vehicle, he noticed Scott was extremely nervous. Scott was sweating, and his eyes were glossy and watery. The deputy explained to Scott that Main Street was a one-way road, and he was driving the wrong way. Scott said he did not realize this and said he was driving around looking for a friend who is “messed up”.
The deputy asked Scott how much he had to drink tonight, and he replied that he had a couple of vodkas earlier while at some downtown bars. Scott was significantly more nervous than most drivers at a typical traffic stop. The deputy had Scott perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, where he observed 12 of 18 clues of impairment.

Scott Admits to Smoking Marijuana
The deputy asked Scott if he had smoked marijuana earlier. According to court documents, Scott confirmed that he had smoked a joint earlier in the evening. The deputy asked Scott why he was driving downtown at this hour. Scott said he was concerned about his intoxicated friend. Scott told the deputy that his friend sometimes ingests cocaine. The deputy asked Scott if he had taken any cocaine, and he replied that he had not.
Scott agreed to take a preliminary breath test, which showed no presence of alcohol. Then Scott was searched incident to arrest. The deputy reached towards Scott’s jacket pocket on his right side. Scott admitted he had some “stuff” in there. The deputy pulled out the items, which were a Zyn can and two tie-dye containers. Scott admitted that it was not Zyn and was cocaine. A marijuana pen was also found on Scott’s person.
Scott was read an implied consent advisory and refused to provide a blood sample. A warrant for a blood test was later obtained, and toxicology results are pending as of the time of filing.
