A six year-old girl was seriously injured early Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Kona Ranch Road, off of Mullan Road

Montana Highway Patrol Sergeant Sean Finley said the incident occurred just after 7:30 a.m.

“I received a call just after 7:30 this morning advising me of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident which involved a young child on Kona Ranch Road in Missoula County,” said Finley. “The child was attempting to cross the roadway and the driver of the vehicle, possible a newer model Jeep Cherokee, attempted to take evasive action but was unsuccessful in that, and struck the child.”

Finley said the driver of the vehicle was not speeding at the time of the incident.

“The speed limit on Kona Ranch Road is 45 miles per hour and the investigation indicates that the driver was not exceeding the speed limit,” he said. “The child was transported to St. Patrick Hospital and then taken via Life Flight to Seattle for treatment.”

It has been reported that the child was crossing the road to get to her bus stop, but the bus had not yet arrived.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing by the Montana Highway Patrol.
