Missoula DUI Hit-and-Run Crashes Through Fence, High Centers on Stump in Stolen Car
There have been at least three hit and run DUI incidents in Missoula this week, but Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh says an incident occurring on Wednesday Morning has theft charges involved too.
"Yeah, we had another one yesterday morning [Wednesday March 15] about 11:20 in the 1300 block of Van Buren, where officers responded to the report of a hit and run," Welsh said. "When they arrived they were informed that the driver and a passenger had left the scene on foot, but they were later located at the intersection of Elm and Jackson."
According to Welsh, the truck involved had crashed through a fence and high-centered on a tree stump, after which the suspect left the scene. When police checked the plates though, they found out that the truck had been reported as stolen. Luckily, a citizen had witnessed the crash and helped police track down the suspect, 42-year-old Donald Olsen.
"Currently Mr. Olsen is being held on a count of felony theft, driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving, failure to notify owner, damaging to property along a highway, failure to give notice of accident by quickest means, and it appears, he did not produce a valid driver's license," Welsh said.
According to the charges, Olsen has never possessed a driver’s license. The passenger in Olsen’s car was not arrested and it appears there are no injuries associated with the crash.
