A 55-year-old Missoula man who had a felony drunken driving charge dismissed earlier this year because some paperwork was not filed in time, now faces a felony charge of driving under the influence of narcotics after a school bus was nearly run off the road.

Justice of the Peace Karen Orzech set bail at $100,000 for Gordon James Schaffer on Tuesday.

Court records say a motorist following Schaffer on Monday saw him swerving and eventually force a car and a school bus onto the shoulder of the road.

Officers say Schaeffer had not been drinking, but failed several sobriety tests. Officers found narcotic painkillers for which he had no prescription and obtained a search warrant to take a blood sample.
