A motorhome was a total loss on Friday afternoon as Missoula Rural Fire responded to the scene on West Riverside Drive in Bonner.

Assistant Chief Brent Christofferson said a total of 20 firefighters, including four engines, a ladder truck and water tender, Battalion Chief and two additional chief officers were dispatched to the scene at 5:02 p.m. on Friday.

When they arrived, firefighters found the motorhome well-involved with fire. They immediately attacked the fire and kept it from spreading to the nearby home.

Two people were slightly injured in the incident. A female was taken to St. Patrick Hospital with possible smoke inhalation, while a male suffered a cut on his leg while assisting a female and a dog out of the motorhome, but he did not require medical attention. The dog was uninjured.

Response was somewhat delayed when a load of pipe was spilled on I-90 near mile marker 109 which held up rush hour traffic and created a hazard for responding emergency vehicles.

The fire is under investigation by Missoula Rural Fire.

MRFD was assisted by the East Missoula Fire Department, Missoula Emergency Services and Missoula County Sheriff’s deputies.
