Mid morning on Wednesday, 9-1-1 was notified of a mobile home fire in Lolo, and Missoula Rural Fire Crews were dispatched to the scene.

Assistant Fire Chief Brent Christofferson said the fire was located at 12002 West Acres Loop. Just off the Highway 12 corridor.

“There was smoke and fire visible to neighbors and passersby that were reporting the fire,” said Christofferson. “We responded quickly and found a single wide mobile home fire. Our firefighters had a quick initial attack and were able to stop the fire before major damage was caused.”

Christofferson said there were no people inside the mobile home at the time, but pets were in danger.

“There were no people inside, they were gone at the time, but there were two family pets,” he said. “There was a dog that one of the neighbors got out before we arrived, and there was a family cat that the firefighters were able to rescue from the fire.”

Christofferson said the fire may have actually started outside the home.

“The fire did spread to the attic and the front corridor, but with the quick response and the calls from neighbors we were able to stop most of the damage. As we understand it, they had no insurance, but we have called the Red Cross and they are assisting the family.”

Christofferson said the Missoula Rural Fore response included two engines, three water tenders, a ladder truck and to command vehicles with approximately 15 personnel on the scene.

Firefighters were assisted by the Missoula County Sheriffs Office, Missoula Emergency Services, Missoula Electric Cooperative, NW Energy, and Missoula County Animal Control.
